The CRDL will still run Scrim after a game night. I always thought they'd have burn out but they still train. The difference is they call the training day after a game night 'Sh*t Kit'. It's where you wear pajamas or a costume to train in. I do know one Skater who says their mood takes a dive the day after a game, like a roller derby hangover.

Don't come here to hear about people's personal lives BUT I do have an interest in both of you, what you do for work and how roller derby effects your work life and friendships.

I did train in a local roller derby league. It was wintertime so I'd wear cargoes as they're not very warm and I could easily wear knee gaurds over the top. Wearing shorts was stupid because after training you'd be freeeeeeezing cold when walking to your car. I do roller skate and in summer it's cargo shorts and a tank top, normally Gothic or a skate related theme to it.

I don't play Roller Derby but I am curious. I've seen some roller derby skaters wear denim shorts which is unusual for anyone playing a sport.

Oooooh, I wanna' know what snacks you normally have with your skate gear?

I used my old Army pack for my skate kit. Everything fits perfectly inside and I can wear it to the Skate Park.

Since Covid-19 the attitude has changed, the advice now is if you're not feeling great, you skip training and stay at home. BUT if you're injured, it's recommended you go to training and volunteer for NSO duties. It's a great way to keep involved. 😉 All this is something I'm not good at practicing. LOL

Are there any particular outdoor wheels you'd recommend for skating on the road? And....breaking taboo but, are Roller Blades more ideal for skating on the road?

I have a question! (I should probably finish the video first) I ordered a set of 187 Guards but the pack only included elbow and need pads...no wrist guards. Why is that?

I tried Roller Derby training and didn't get further than White Star. BUT it did get me into roller skating! Thanks for sharing this video, it was very amusing and informative!

This is me 😂. I stand in line in the store like this, wait to get in the rink like this, and even sometimes cook 😂😂.. it's in my head to just do it so its subconscious atp. I also change levels and stand on carpet with skates too. At least I know I'm not crazy my family and friends just think I am 😂. Thanks buds!

I’ve never played sports but I can skate and so that’s how I became interested in derby. I’ve been all of obsessed for like two days lol. I was even thinking of trying out for a team just to get exercise and meet people, but I found out derby is no longer a woman’s only sport and the same gender bullshit surrounding womens sports was going on in derby. It makes me wonder if that’s why you guys haven’t posted in two years… Anyway, half the members at my local team weren’t female even tho they were on the womens team. So I just was like, “yeah I’m not doing this…” I never was all that passionate about womens sports being erased until now. But I defiantly see what all these female athletes have begin complaining about now. The few derby girls who I saw spoke out got death threats and banned from the WFTDA. So much for caring about their feelings. But they’re women so their feelings don’t matter in the eyes of our society. Only the feelings of men are significant. So yeah, I just don’t want any part in derby now. It looks like so much fun though. Sad the sport got highjacked by activists.

I will literally never do derby bc of how politicized womens sports have become I really want no part of it, but my name is Raine and I feel like if I ever did do derby I’d have to name myself Raine of Terror bc it’s just too perfect lol

I’m not into derby, but I like the freedom. Hate the heels, so I look for this kind of skate. I like these so far. I just wish there were more affordable skates that look like this. The affordable ones tend to be the heels.

Fitting a mouth guard!! Proper Sisu ones set u back a bit and the plastic was hot and folded on itself. Expensive mistake! Maybe practice on a cheap one before fitting a proper one! How friendly, helpful and caring everyone is (Victorian Derby League, Australia). They really look out for you. And even first scrim, modcon, the other skaters are so lovely. Even though they give you bruises lol. I agree with being fit. I am nearing 44 and just started this year. Am grateful for always going to the gym and building muscle and maintaining some level of cardiovascular fitness. I wish derby was around when I was younger. But I am from New Zealand and it just wasn't.

quick question: what about skating with glasses? i wear glasses and can’t wear contacts :( when i was in robotics in high school, i usually wore goggles to protect my glasses and it but some people had prescription safety glasses/goggles. safety glasses might not be a good option, but do you think that prescription safety goggles would be allowed? love y’all’s content and i hope to join a team when i move in a few months!!

Oh my gosh the thumbs... I do that as well. This helped a lot because I always go through how the practice was in my head on the way home and make myself feel worse after bad ones. I am going to make myself a mirror sticker that says "Do you need some "Jam-nesia"?". This way as I am looking in my mirrors on the way home it can help reset me to just move forward. Every practice gets a little better and I can't wait to look back in a year and tell myself about all the progress.
